Golden Labrador Retrievers Part 1

Golden Retrievers are a favorite subject for the Danger Dog crowd.   Their sweet disposition comes through in most portraits.   100_2653This is Louis by the artist Sagar whose signature is in Japanese on Louis' collar.   The Nepali script says 'Dog here be aware.'   (Verbs are at the end of the sentence in Nepali.)   Retriever.Mahesh_1

Smaller than your typical Danger Dog at 9 1/2" by 12", this portrait of Flick is by Mahesh.   Thapa.retriever
Willow, above is by Shiva Thapa of Pokhara.  The script is in Tibetan.    Tibetans believe that dogs are reincarnated monks, by the way.
Here's Murphy again, by Govinda.   Govinda uses reflective lettering which looks red in person.   The script here is English and Tibetan.   Master.Retriever
This painting is the only one I have from this artist.   He is from the Tripureshwor district and when I approached him, he was not willing to paint a dog.   But when I picked up from Krishna across the street from him, he had painted this and I bought it.   The artist was an older gentleman, and the only explanation I can think of was that he was embarrassed at his lack of English, and the other artists on the street encouraged him to get in on the Danger Dog Bonanza.   The script in Nepali says Dangerous Dog Here.   The Dog is Willow. Punam.Trip.Reriever2
The above paintings are by Punam Mankajee of the Tripureshwor District of Kathmandu.  Gyan.Retriever
This cute little portrait of Willow is by Gyan.  Ojna,Retriever, jpeg
This Golden Labrador is by Krishna Ojna, my Economics Professor/Signboard Artist.   When I told a reporter for the Kathmandu Post about his moonlighting, the young journalist asked why he would paint dog signboards.   Because he needs the money, of course!  This piece is on especially heavy metal and is signed and dated.  Retriever.amar
Here is the same dog painted by Amar Shrestha.   Sagar.Retreiver1
This is a Golden Retriever portrayed as a thug!   Though signed by Birju, this is painted by Sagar.  I bet this Dog plays poker!  Sagar.retriever
Birju signed this piece by Sagar as well.   Sagar.Retriever3
Again by Sagar, this portrait of Willow is more cheerful in spirit.   The Japanese chop is Sagar's signature.   Sagar's name means 'Ocean' is Nepali.   Santosh.Retriever2
This Golden Retriever is by Santosh Shrestha of Pokhara.
With the recent success of 'Marley and Me', these beautiful and friendly dogs seem to be everywhere, and all of these Dogs in this blogpost are available at this time.
