Why I love Palm Springs...

  Palmsprings
This shot shows the essence of Palm Springs.   Food, art, design and Good Boys!  All at the Terry Martin Gallery.   His ever-changing gallery is right outside the delicious Jake's Restaurant at 664 N. Palm Canyon Drive.   Near Cheeky's and across the street from Trio and Thai Smile.   The paintings shown are by Maria Dudley and Ram Krishna.

This week is Palm Springs Restaurant Week, so come in and enjoy one of these fine restaurants and while you are there...

Stop by and see the Dogs!     The Terrence Rogers Fine Arts Gallery/Terry Martin Gallery is located at 664 N. Palm Canyon.

The Palm Springs Art Museum!   Dale Chihuly's in the garden, 3, count 'em 3, absolutely brilliant exhibits.    A glass show that was world class.   There was one sculpture featured in their glass exhibit made by an American in the Czech Republic...sublime.

I wasn't sure if it was all right to photographs the stunning works inside, but I guess it felt okay outside.   This huge sculpture by Viola Frey dwarfed me!   The world at his feet.   Who could resist those lovely palms up at street level.   Everything was beautiful here.

Palm Springs is a modernist paradise which enjoyed its second coming during the Mid-
Century's architectural zenith.   (The first coming was during the prohibition years.)

There is nothing more beautiful than a large group of Chihuly's beautifully set in a cactus garden.

Palm Springs has many, many cherry automobiles.   This turquoise 1964 Cadillac convertible with the dramatic palm trees reflected in its attractive boot was parked outside the Terrence Rogers Fine Arts/Terry Martin Gallery.   Terry wished that such lovely cars would park in front of his Santa Monica Gallery.   Guess he's never seen my '59 Cadillac.  I always bicycle to his exhibits.

Daniel used to own a Borgward Isabella.   He gave it to someone who couldn't pay to retrieve it after towing...Long story.   This one is offered at over $18,000.   Seems high to me in its 'semi-restored' or some such euphemism for half-baked condition.

There was even art behind the local hot coffee shop on the main drag.   Those palms, those mountains, that light.   All conspire to make Palm Springs world-renowned.

The last we were in Palm Springs (1997) we stayed near the Korakia while Dan worked on Mel Damsky's Oscar-nominated documentary about the Palm Springs Follies.  But we wanted to stay there.   Instead we were relegated to Gloria Swanson's old pad replete with Orson Wellsian sized fireplace.   Still there and also recommended.

The Korakia hotel is an oasis from another time.   With nary a false note, we found no fault with the last 13 year's improvements.

This time around, while the Danger Dog opened at the Terry Martin Gallery, we stayed in a trailer park with a world class view.

We slept out under the stars (and full moon) and woke to this view.   The trailer parks of Palm Springs seem great to me!
