Live from Kathmandu: New Works in Progress

It is monsoon season here in Kathmandu and I am excited to share the latest works in progress of the Danger Dogs. 

Megh Raj Thapa has almost finished this portrait of a white Labrador Retriever who is frolicking in the ocean.   All of the artists were thrilled to see this one, as Nepal is a land-locked country and they are fascinated with the oceans of the world.

Next, also by Megh Raj, we have a lovely Border Collie with a big smile.

And last but not least, Megh Raj is painting this handsome liver and white colored Border Collie.   This is a strong photo and I cannot wait to see the three finals on this one.

Here is an early work in progress of the same dog, this time by Baba.

Here we have Tito, the French Bulldog next to Roxy the cheer-leading Cattle Dog, both early works in progress by Baba.   I came by on a Saturday, usually the day off for a Nepali business and Baba's back room was filled with men having a business meeting.

Here is that beautiful white Lab in the ocean, this time by Baba.

Above is Baba outside his studio.   Baba has expanded his studio to include a separate 'fine arts' wing where he will be teaching art to students and painting the Danger Dogs.   His old office will be the commercial part of his business where he paints license plates and banners.

 

The streets of Kathmandu are being widened all over town.   This means that people are losing 5 to 10 feet of their homes, gardens and storefronts without compensation.   This makes it a tense time and you can see from the photo above that this is a great disruption.   Baba is scheduled to lose 6 feet from his studio, but he is making do.   

On a happier note, the festival of Gai Jatra was celebrated last  Friday.   This holiday honors the family and friends that have died in the past year by carrying their photos on a palenquin through town accompanied by much fanfare.  These little girls are adorable dressed up as the Goddess Radha.

We watched the processions from our perches and these ladies and their dog watched from theirs.

This is the interior courtyard of the home where we watched the Gai Jatra festivities in Bhaktapur - a city renowned throughout Nepal as the City of Artists.   As you can see from this old, old house, the woodcarvers were fantastic.

To order, please send me a photo of your pet.   I will give it to three different artists, giving you a choice of 3 paintings and three artists will get work.   Each painting is about one square foot and is on metal with synthetic enamel paint.   These can be hung indoors or out, be framed or unframed.

While I am in Nepal, your pet will be featured on the Danger Dog Blog, as I stop into the artists' studios and document the works in progress.

Satisfaction is guaranteed as I accept no money up front.   If you do not like one of the three, you pay nothing, and the 3 artists are paid in full in any case.   Let me know what you want it to say and that's it!
