Folk Art Obamas arrive at the Santa Monica Museum of Art

The Nepalese signboard artists had a fine time painting President Obama and his 1st Lady, Michelle Obama.

The new 'Wall of Folk Art Obamas' is up at the Santa Monica Museum of Art.   You may remember that I commissioned portraits of Barack Obama just after the historic 2008 elections, but this is the first time that I have done Michelle Obama's portrait.   I think they have turned out well.

The Santa Monica Museum of Art is located at Bergamot Station.  More information and directions can be found on their website at

This portrait of Barack Obama is by Megh Raj Thapa.

Sufraj Khadka painted this portrait of President Obama.

Michelle Obama by Sufraj Khadka.

And Michelle as painted by Megh Raj Thapa.

There are now 4 portraits of Michelle Obama and 8 of Barack Obama presently at the Museum.   Hurry down for the best selection.

All of the above signboards are hand painted using synthetic enamel on metal by Nepali signboard artists.   The artists are paid fair trade wages.   Some portraits are on recycled metal.
