Idyllwild's South Ridge before the Wildfire

Sadly, the beautiful South Ridge of Idyllwild is on fire.

On May 3, 2012, we took a walk up the mountain.

It was a cloudy day down in the valley, but we were above the clouds.

The blue skies beckoned.

The clouds lifted a bit and we could see for miles.

As we headed back down the trail...

mosses and lichens covered the boulders,

lizards frolicked on the rocks,

and red plants exploded from the earth.

I know that all of this beauty will return, and I am grateful that I was able to see the South Ridge in all of its glory on that day in May, 2012.

I just hope that the people of Idyllwild and Fern Valley will be able to return soon to their unburnt homes.

The town of Idyllwild is well known for its music and arts scene.  The South Ridge is part of the San Jacinto mountain range.

Why I love Nepal: Naive Beware of Dog signs!

We came across this beauty on a main street in Pokhara.   While it has some damage, it is a fine effort at warning off tresspassers.  This vintage beware of the dog sign is approximately 10 inches by one foot.

I think I recognize this painter from other signs in the area.   But it is a classic design!

Cecil the Boston Terrier is a handsome Danger Dog, hand painted by Baba, Jit Gurung and Sagar Bitsa (clockwise from top left).   The owner chose the portrait by Baba.  Which would you have chosen?

Alas the gate and this beware of dog sign have disappeared.

This sign has gone, too.   I wish I could find them and offer them on the website.

Arwen Evenstar, a black cat that like ribbons, by Baba, Megh Raj and Sanjib (clockwise from top left).   This is what you can expect when you custom order your pet, helping by giving three artists a job in Nepal.

Next trip is tentatively scheduled for the end of October, 2013, returning the first week in December, 2013.   I will be back in plenty of time to send out holiday orders.

How to commission YOUR pet's portrait on metal:

Now is the time to order:   Be ahead of the Pack!

1. Please send me a photo of your pet.  I will give it to three different artists, giving you a choice of 3 paintings and three people will get work.   Each painting is about one square foot and is on metal with synthetic enamel paint.   These can be hung indoors or out.

2. Let me know what you would like it to say.

3. Let me know what style of portrait you would prefer:   naive, realistic, colorful, etc.

4. Tell me your pet's name and breed.

5. Send your photo to me at:
That's it !

Satisfaction is guaranteed as I accept no money up front.   If you do not like one of the three, you pay nothing, and the 3 artists are paid in full in any case.   Let me know what you want it to say and that's it!

The cost is $250 plus shipping.   Shipping is around $18 per sign (to and from the US).   And 9.5% California sales tax for California residents.
Pay after choosing your portrait.
Multiple pets on one sign cost more ($325 for Double, $400 for Triple).

Let's keep these artists painting.
