The Nepal Art Dogs is teaming up with c.nichols projects in Mar Vista to raise money for two well-established and innovative nonprofits working to provide clean water and shelter to the people of Nepal. We’re organizing an afternoon gathering on Sunday, July 19th at the c.nichols project.
We expect up to 200 people!
Nepal was recently hit by 2 major earthquakes and 100s of aftershocks. Over 321 significant aftershocks and 20,000 minor ones have hit since April 25, 2015.
Over 8,600 people lost their lives – 2,500,000 have become homeless – and the monsoon is on the way.
We are providing relief through two 501(c)3 organizations:
Waves and Water is working to get as many clean water filtration systems to Nepal as possible. So far, they have raised over $240,000 to get filters to 250,000 people. www.wavesforwater.org
Portal Bikes is partnering with survivors to build durable shelters that keep families warm, safe and dry. For $100, they supply and build a sturdy temporary home for 6-8 people in 40 minutes. These materials can later be used for more permanent shelter after the monsoon season. http://www.portalbikes.org/shelters/
To engage as many people as possible, there will be a nominal fee to attend the event. We will provide food, drink, music and art.
The Cerny Brothers and Nepali music from the talented Manohar Gurung are scheduled.
On the day, there will be a silent auction with donations from designers like Denis Columb who works with local artisans in Nepal producing exquisite hand-loomed cashmere shawls, wraps and blankets. And there will be a silent auction where one can win, among other items, a Nepal Danger Dog portrait of their own pet.
I was in Nepal during the first deadly earthquake and will share my experiences and discuss the impact of the devastation on the Nepali people.
