Live from Kathmandu: New finals from Sanjib Rana

Sanjib Rana has completed 2 new portraits.   A Greyhound and a Jack Russell mix...

Folk art portrait of a Greyhound hand painted on metal in Nepal

Dolce, the Greyhound by Sanjib Rana is a great example of a Danger Dog from Nepal.   Sanjib is the only artist I work with who uses acrylic paints.   The others all use synthetic enamel.

Sanjib captured the gleam in Winnie's eyes.

Stay tuned, there are more to come!

Want to immortalize your pet?   It is not too late!

Now is the time to order:   Be ahead of the Pack!   Orders now being accepted for the March 2016 trip.  I will be back in June 2016.   Orders close for this trip on June 9th, 2016, but sooner is always better as we need time for the paint to dry!

1. Please send me a photo of your pet.  I will give it to three different artists, giving you a choice of 3 paintings and three people will get work.   Each painting is about one square foot and is on metal with synthetic enamel paint.   These can be hung indoors or out.

2. Let me know what you would like it to say.

3. Let me know what style of portrait you would prefer:   naive, realistic, colorful, etc.

4. Tell me your pet's name and breed.

5. Send your photo to me at:   ampage1@gmail.com
That's it !

Satisfaction is guaranteed as I accept no money up front.   If you do not like one of the three, you pay nothing, and the 3 artists are paid in full in any case.   Let me know what you want it to say and that's it!

The cost is $250 plus shipping.   Shipping is around $22 per sign (to and from the US).   And 9.75% California sales tax for California residents.
Pay after choosing your portrait.
Multiple pets on one sign cost more ($325 for Double, $400 for Triple).

Let's keep these artists painting.

This hand-painted art form is fast disappearing in Kathmandu, as it already has in most parts of the world.   I pay fair trade wages, the artists get to paint again, pet lovers get a choice of three paintings for each commission, and I get to help Nepali artists make a living.   Everybody is happy.   Rescue dogs from America get to rescue artists from Nepal!

Live from Kathmandu: Mannequins galore!

The streets of Kathmandu have some wonderfully strange mannequins.   Today, I am featuring mannequins from Boudha.

Mannequins of Nepal
Mannequin in Boudha

This mannequin is just outside Boudha's famous Stupa and she is dressed to thrill.   The hat, the sunglasses, the fancy Chuba - she always makes me smile.

Another 'Lost in Translation' moment

Je Parle Fianois?  Not very well, I'd guess.

What little girl would not love to dress like a native Tibetan girl?   The jewelry is amazing as well.

Women are not left out in this little arcade of splendid dresses.   Their jewelry looks very heavy, and they are incredibly ornate, encrusted with coral, turquoise and set in silver.    Very colorful.

On the main road outside Boudha Gate, you will find many, many mannequins of various sizes and condition!

Live from Kathmandu: Megh Raj' works in progress

Megh Raj Thapa is almost finished with his latest Danger Dog portraits here in Kathmandu.

Homer, a Boxer mix looks beautiful in his almost finished portrait by Megh Raj Thapa.   He is just awaiting his background color and lettering.   Megh Raj' style is realistic, almost like a photo.

Rasta is almost complete!   This handsome Black Standard Poodle sports a jaunty yellow scarf and his pink tongue is classic.

Winnie is winning in Megh Raj's portrait.   I like the gleam in her eye...

Megh Raj has had a string of bad luck lately, as he has lost his studio in the Chabahil area of Kathmandu.   He had not yet found a replacement studio and is now working out of Govinda Kalikote's studio not far from his home.   While Megh Raj is upbeat and does not complain about this, I know that it is weighing heavily on him.   A lot of his work as a sign painter is from walk in traffic, so without a storefront, work is more difficult to find.

It is really very nice of Govinda to share his space with Megh Raj.
