Live from Kathmandu: Frogs and Dogs and a Cat

DangerFrogSagar
Danger Dog by Sagar Bitsa

The first ever Danger Frogs have arrived!   This commission was made in honor of a new wine bar in Bed-Stuy in New York City.  The artists were requested to feature a frog, a spilled glass of red wine and 'Danger Frog' in both English and Nepali.  The wine bar is named 'Frog' as one of the co-owners is French.

Danger Frog by Dilip Niroj

Dilip's dyslexia comes into play here in his playful take on a 'Denger Frog'.  Dilip once lettered a portrait of a Rottweiler named Ruby 'Enlightened God'.

Danger From by Sanjib Rana

Sanjib's lovely Danger Frog is a tree frog he found on the web.  There is texture to this portrait, as Sanjib is the only Danger Frog artist to use acrylic paint and not enamel.

Lab&TabbyCatFolkArt
Nalu & Treasure by Megh Raj Thapa

Nalu the Labrador and Treasure the Tabby Cat are a nice pair.  Megh Raj has captured Nalu's innocent look and Treasure's intent gaze.

Sagar Bitsa puts the duo on a dramatic black background with the Nepali word Danger on the bottom.  He also plays with the colors of the English lettering.

Sanjib also chose a black background for the twin portrait of Nalu and Treasure.  I think it is interesting that all 3 artists chose to put Nalu on the left and Treasure on the right.

French Bulldog Folk Art
Stuart Little the Frenchie by Sagar Bitsa.

Last, but never least, we have the handsome and studly Stuart Little, a French Bulldog with attitude.  This portrait is by Sagar Bitsa.

Stuart's portrait by Sanjib Rana also captures his direct gaze and adorable paws on green grass.

Dilip adds the Nepali lettering that translates to 'dog here is intelligent'.  Dilip is a huge dog fan that has owned a huge variety of dogs over the years.  He likes Dobermans, Pugs, German Shepherds and mutts!

These are just a few of the orders this trip.  Stay tuned on the Danger Dog Blog for more.  Lots of Cats to come!

Let's keep these artists painting.

New Finals: Cats from Sagar Bitsa

Sagar is at it again, delivering beautiful portraits of pets.  These photos are taken by the artist and have a bit of a glare, but they look great to me.

RicoTabbySagar
Rico the Perfect Tabby by Sagar

First up is Rico, a perfect cat.  Sagar gave him a golden sky with birds flying through the moon (sun?).   I am always surprised and pleased by his work.

RosieGingerSagar
Rosie the Ginger Cat by Sagar

Rosie the Ginger Cat is lucky indeed.  She looks good at a slight tilt.

IrisBlackCatGraceSagar
Iris the lucky Black Cat by Sagar Bitsa

Iris, with the pretty green eyes, is a lovely black kitty.  I am going to talk to Sagar about the drips on the Nepali word Birallo (cat), easily fixed.

NaluTreasureSagar
Nalu & Treasure by Sagar Bitsa

Nalu and Treasure are a pair of good friends, composited from 2 photos by Sagar.  Nalu has the honor of being the only dog to be commissioned this trip.  There are cats, there are roosters, there is even a frog!   The Nepali word beneath the two is Katarna (Danger in Nepalese).

BewareCock2Sagar
Beware of Cock by Sagar

Beware of Cock is always a popular theme with the Danger Dog project.  This is a charming example by Sagar, and more to come!

Anyone with roosters knows that during a full moon, they will sometimes crow in the middle of the night.   Not unlike other cocks.

More to come soon.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

If you would like to have your dog (cat, horse, chicken, bunny, bearded dragon, etc.) immortalized on metal here in Nepal, you can send me a photo of your pet.   I am now in Kathmandu, Nepal, taking orders.

I will deliver in early May 2023, in plenty of time to deliver for Mother's Day, Father's Day and Grads.

You choose the style, the color, what you would like the sign to say...

This hand-painted art form is fast disappearing in Kathmandu, as it already has in most parts of the world.   I pay fair trade wages, the artists get to paint again, pet lovers get a choice of three paintings for each commission, and I get to help Nepali artists make a living.   Everybody is happy.   Rescue dogs from America get to rescue artists from Nepal!

HOW TO ORDER

1.  Send me a photo of your pet to [email protected]. Find out more at www.NepalDog.com..

2. Let me know the name of your pet, their breed and what you would like it to say.

I will give the photo to three different artists, giving you a choice of 3 paintings and three artists will get work.   Each painting is about one square foot and is on metal with synthetic enamel paint.   These can be hung indoors or out, be framed or unframed.

While I am in Nepal, your pet will be featured on the Danger Dog Blog, as I stop into the artists' studios and document the works in progress.

Satisfaction is guaranteed as I accept no money up front.   If you do not like one of the three, you pay nothing, and the 3 artists are paid in full in any case.   Let me know what you want it to say and that's it!

Let's keep these artists painting.
