Please stay tuned for more finals to come! If you would like to have your dog (cat, horse, chicken, bunny, bearded dragon, etc.) immortalized on metal here in Nepal, it is now too late.

I will return in the autumn of 2022, leaving plenty of time to deliver holiday gifts.

You choose the style, the color, what you would like the sign to say... You can also check out NepalDog.com, as I have over 72 breeds of dog (and counting) and many cats.

I pay fair trade wages, the artists get to paint again, pet lovers get a choice of three paintings for each commission, and I get to help Nepali artists make a living.

Everybody is happy.   Rescue dogs from America get to rescue artists from Nepal!

HOW TO ORDER:  To order, please send me a photo of your pet.   I will give it to three different artists, giving you a choice of 3 paintings and three artists will get work.   Each painting is about one square foot and is on metal with synthetic enamel paint.   These can be hung indoors or out, be framed or unframed.

While I am in Nepal, your pet will be featured on the Danger Dog Blog, as I stop into the artists' studios and document the works in progress.

Satisfaction is guaranteed as I accept no money up front.   If you do not like one of the three, you pay nothing, and the 3 artists are paid in full in any case.   Let me know what you want it to say and that's it!

Final works from Jit Gurung and Shree Lamachhane

New works are starting to come in from Jit Gurung.   Jit is a well-known artist working in Nepal's second largest city: Pokhara

A Boxer/Pitbull mix folk art hand painted on metal in Nepal
Juno - A Boxer/Pitbull mix by Jit Gurung

Juno strikes a casual pose in the first of 3 portraits and shows off her sidelong glance.  Jit is an illustrator and cartoonist, and that shows in the simplicity and clarity of line.

Delilah the Boxer by Jit Gurung

Delilah is sitting on her dogfriend Cowgirl's bed and floating in the sky surrounded by clouds.

Shih Tzu folk art portrait hand painted on metal in Nepal
Buzzy the Shih Tzu by Jit Gurung

Buzzy the Shih Tzu looks out on the world with shining eyes and admirable lashes and brows in his first portrait by Jit.

Tuxedo Cat folk art hand painted on metal in Nepal
Tuxedo Cats by Shree

These 3 cats rest on a blue carpet in their portrait by Shree.  Shree has been working in S. Korea for the past 10 years and the 3 paintings here mark his return to the Danger Dog project.  He was a sport about restocking paints and brushes after all these years.   Those 10 years of remittance work gave his son a chance to become a civil engineer, his daughter to finish 12th form and his wife to run a small departmental store.

Papillion mix folk art hand painted on metal in Nepal
Mozzarella the Papillion mix by Shree

Mozzarella, the Papillion mix.   Her portrait by Shree returns to Shree's earlier style that I found so charming when I first came across him in 2008.  He always placed his dog in Elysian fields and was the only artist I have worked with that already had existing Beware of Dog signs in his shop.

Shepherd Hound mix folk art hand painted on metal in Nepal
Bodhi the Shepherd/Hound Dog by Shree

In Shree's portrait of Bodhi, the Shepherd Hound mix, he replaces the rug with a fanciful round pillow.  Shree likes to redecorate a bit.  Once he turned a beige couch into a pink and yellow confection, with an Italian Greyhound as an odalisque.

I have found that many Nepalis artists have not thrived during Nepal's 3 long lockdown periods.  Like the rest of the world their lives were put on hold.  I cannot imagine that many businesses ordered signs when there were no customers.

The artists were very happy to get the work!

Please stay tuned for more works in progress to come!

Welcome to Nepal's Day of the Dog 2017

Nepal is the only country in the world to celebrate a day dedicated to dogs.

Kukor Tihar is a day of Dog blessings.

This young (very well-trained) Spitz and his brindle Boxer puppy friend are awaiting their Kukor Puja treats.

The 5 and a half month old Boxer is about to enjoy her first Day of the Dog.

The ceremony is complicated and took about 3 minutes.  That Spitz has the patience of a saint and the young Boxer has that unique Boxer wiggle...   They are garlanded with marigolds, red tikas (blessings) are applied to their foreheads and paws.   Coins are placed on their heads and then, they are very well fed with meat and rice.  Flower petals and rice kernels are also part of the process.

He must have held that Namaste pose for 4 minutes, before he got antsy.   He also shakes hands...

The Spitz' owner is understandably proud...

Also known as Kukor Puja or Kukor Tihar, it is part of a 5 day festival which also has a special day for crows and cows.   Tihar is part of the festival of lights where the locals invite Laxmi into their homes with colorful powders and lights so that they can have wealth in the coming year.

India also celebrates a version of this holiday, but they do not honor dogs as part of their Diwali (Dipawali) festival.
