After 60 years as Queen of the British Empire, Queen Elizabeth has seen plenty of changes. But she has remained loyal to Corgis after all these years.
These charming and loyal dogs have been a royal favorite of the Queen. One of my favorite scenes from the movie "The Queen" was the one where Elizabeth (played by Helen Mirren) walked the grounds of her castle with her Corgis.
Corgi means 'little dog' in Welsh, and is said to have been bred in Wales since the 12th Century. Elizabeth got her first Corgi in the 1930's from her father King George VI and named her Susan.
Susan is the matriarch of all other Corgis since owned by Queen Elizabeth II.
Queen Elizabeth liked to breed her Corgis with Dachshunds and called the result 'Dorgis'. I wonder what she would think of this mixed breed Beagle Corgi mix named Marley. Marley likes to fish and would be quite at home at Balmoral, I believe, though Marley's companion might have something to say about that.
From the same photo as the above portrait, Megh Raj gives Marley a pastel glow.
Reign is an appropriate name for this lovely blue eyed Corgi. With her intent gaze she does indeed reign over her royal household.
Reign the Corgi is painted this time by Sagar, who has included some rather racy images in the background swirls. Sagar has a naughty sense of humor. It is a double portrait in a sense, as you can see Reign on her mistress' lap to the left of the main image.
This hand-painted art form is fast disappearing in Kathmandu, as it already has in most parts of the world. I pay fair trade wages, the artists get to paint again, pet lovers get a choice of three paintings for each commission, and I get to help Nepali artists make a living. Everybody is happy. Rescue dogs from America get to rescue artists from Nepal!
Now is the time to order: Be ahead of the Pack! Orders now being accepted for the Spring 2012 trip.
Please send me a photo of your pet. I will give it to three different artists, giving you a choice of 3 paintings and three people will get work. Each painting is about one square foot and is on metal with synthetic enamel paint. These can be hung indoors or out.
Let me know what you would like it to say.
Let me know what style of portrait you would prefer: naive, realistic, colorful, etc.
That's it !
Satisfaction is guaranteed as I accept no money up front. If you do not like one of the three, you pay nothing, and the 3 artists are paid in full in any case. Let me know what you want it to say and that's it!
